The Science and Technology Unit is an independent unit supervised directly by Dr Manaa bin Qurash Al-Dajani, the Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research and managed by Dr Mohamed bin Abdul Manan Mulla Bar. This unit is linked with the National Science, Technology and Innovation Plan (NSTIP) of the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST). It coordinates and manages programs and projects related to the university's scientific, applied and technological activities. In addition, it oversees their implementation and ensures their compatibility with the priorities and directions of the long-term comprehensive national plan for science and technology to participate in sustainable, extensive development, according to the Vision 2030 of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Enhancing research capabilities and scientific excellence to improve research performance at the University of Northern Borders, achieving the strategic objectives of the comprehensive national plan for science and technology, and reaching global competitiveness in accordance with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030.



The mission

  Creating an integrated scientific environment that helps achieve excellence in various scientific and applied fields to obtain distinctive and innovative outputs that serve the community and align with the objectives of the national plan for science and technology. It could be achieved through advanced mechanisms that create knowledge according to comprehensive quality standards and the Vision 2030 of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

 

Objectives

  • Foster a culture of scientific research and develop the knowledge industry by implementing King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology's research programs and national science and technology plan.
  • Scientific, technical and administrative supervision and providing scientific advice to researchers to ensure that their research proposals align with the national plan for science and technology and the Northern Border University's strategy while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Enhancing human resources, infrastructure and financial resources related to scientific research within the university.
  •  Developing ways of partnership and cooperation with universities and local, regional and international academic institutions to share knowledge through experiences. This approach will enhance the university's and its personnel's contribution towards the national plan for science and technology, both in terms of quality and quantity.
  • Enhance the role of local community institutions in achieving the kingdom's 2030 vision by offering professional research, studies, and consultations that adhere to local and global quality standards.

 

Mechanisms

  • Announcing the opening of submissions for research projects.
  •  Receiving research projects through the electronic portal of the unit.
  • The scientific committee of the unit conducts an initial evaluation of research projects to determine their compliance with submission requirements and their alignment with the national plan for science and technology.
  •  Providing the researchers with the scientific committee’s opinion and making project adjustments based on their feedback.
  • The unit provides Initial approval of research projects and sends them to the General Secretariat of the Supervisory Committee of the National Plan for approval.
  •  Instructing the principal investigator to commence his\her research project upon its approval.
  • Scientific, administrative and financial supervision of approved research projects.
  • Receiving periodic reports that reflect the progress of project implementation.
  • Receiving the final reports and evaluating them initially by the scientific committee of the unit.
  •  Assisting the project's research team in publishing one or more research papers from the project in international scientific journals approved by the General Secretariat of the Supervisory Committee.
  •  Assisting the research team academically, financially, and administratively in closing the research project.
